Health Benefits of Masala Chai Tea
Rich in Antioxidants
Both black tea and cinnamon are high in antioxidants, including polyphenols. Polyphenols help remove free radicals in the body and decrease levels of cell damage. They also reduce a person’s risk of developing chronic disease.
Increased Insulin Sensitivity
Insulin is a key factor in how the body regulates its metabolism and rations out its own energy stores. Cinnamon has been shown to greatly increase the body’s sensitivity to insulin, which helps insulin work more effectively. This can help reduce blood sugar levels. In turn, this can help reduce the risk of developing diabetes.
Reduced Bad Cholesterol
Excess low-density cholesterol levels in the body can lead to health problems like heart failure and stroke. Drinking black tea every day can help reduce low-density cholesterol in people with elevated cholesterol levels.
Improved Liver Health
Cloves contain compounds that can assist in healthy liver function – more specifically, the compound eugenol. In animal studies, clove oil has been found to decrease oxidative stress and inflammation, contributing to overall proper liver function.
Decreased Blood Sugar
In addition to improving insulin resistance, cinnamon can help lower blood sugar. It does this by decreasing the amount of glucose that can enter your bloodstream after a meal. By interfering with digestive enzymes, it slows the breakdown of carbohydrates in your digestive system.
